FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

If you’re interested in beginning a kitchen remodel you’ve likely asked yourself, “How long will a kitchen remodel take?” The answer to this question depends on the scope and scale of the project. On average, a kitchen remodel that doesn’t include any major structural changes typically takes 14 to 16 weeks, from the 1st day of demolition to the final cleaning and detailing. Our Project Managers at Northland Design & Build work diligently to schedule your kitchen remodel with as much efficiency as possible. We book out our trade partners in advance to minimize lengthy lead times.

How long does a kitchen remodel with minor structural changes take?

While structural changes will add time to the overall construction process, the additional time may be less significant than you think. Whether there’s a wall you’d like to eliminate from your kitchen, or a larger window you’d like to install, the Northland Construction family will plan your possibilities. The average kitchen remodel with minor structural changes typically takes between 16 to 18 weeks, from demolition to the final cleaning and detailing. There may also be added time to the front end of the job, depending on the city/county where the kitchen remodel is located. Fortunately, much of the work with the city/county can be accomplished during the design and pre-construction phase.

How long does an entire home remodel take?

The average entire home remodel that doesn’t have any major structural changes typically takes between 18 to 20 weeks, from the 1st day of demo to the final cleaning and detailing, though this timeframe is dependent on the scope and scale of the project. For example, installing or refinishing hardwood floors adds about 2 weeks to the length of the project. Our Project Managers specialize in scheduling and know when to balance multiple trades on the same day, and when to leave time for your freshly finished floors to cure.

How long does an entire home remodel with major structural changes take?

The Northland Construction family is highly experienced in-home renovation projects that require major structural alterations. While these sorts of projects may feel overwhelming to some, they’re just another day at the office for our team. The time it takes to complete this sort of project is highly dependent on the scope and scale. On average, an entire home remodel with major structural changes typically takes 26 to 28 weeks, from the 1st day of demo to the final cleaning and detailing.

How long does a master bathroom remodel take?

The average master bathroom remodel takes slightly less time than a kitchen remodel, since much (but not all) of the process is similar (demolition, rough electrical, plumbing, sheetrock, cabinets, tile, countertops, etc.). On average, a master bathroom remodel takes between 10 to 12 weeks, from the 1st day of demo to the final cleaning and detailing . Remodeling multiple bathrooms at the same time doesn’t add any significant amount of time to the remodel process, so many of our clients choose to remodel 2 or more bathrooms at the same time, as well as a laundry room and or/closet.

Can I live in my home during the remodel?

Yes! In fact, most of our clients remain living in their homes during kitchen and bathroom remodels. The only instance where we don’t recommend living at home during a remodel are entire home renovations, where all the livable spaces have significant work taking place. Otherwise, our crew at Northland Construction will set up dust curtains that isolate the work zone from your livable spaces and place filters on any air returns that are in the workspace. We understand that home remodeling is inherently disruptive, but our goal is to make the remodel process as seamless and comfortable as possible. During a kitchen remodel, we recommend setting up a kitchenette in the garage with a coffee pot, Insta-pot, toaster and microwave, or whatever other small portable appliances you may find convenient.

Can my dog live at home during my remodel?

Yes! It’s your dog’s home too. Though we won’t feed or walk your dog, we are a pet loving construction company. Our only request is that pets remain outside of the construction zone until the project is complete.

Can my kids live at home during my remodel?

Of Course. Your entire family will be able to remain living at home during the remodel, but we do require that young children stay out of the work zone during the entire remodel process. Though we take precautions to keep the work zone as safe as possible, there are potential hazards that exist within a construction zone.
