Another sleek and chic kitchen remodel completed for our Northland clients in the Bauer Creek neighborhood. This traditional yet unique design inspires even us.
Just off Cornell in Portland, our clients had initially expressed a desire for both a kitchen remodel and expansion of their adjacent nook. The idea was to better accommodate their busy lifestyle with three kids, friends, and their family dog, Rudy. However, after consulting the clients’ needs and their target budget, our designer proposed an alternative plan that would be less expensive and time-consuming than expanding the nook.
Originally, the dining room opposite the kitchen was divided by an obtrusive wall, discouraging its utilization, a problem we often find in homes. This space was just begging for more attention. And so, rather than ignoring this already neglected room, our designer redeveloped the space, saving both time and money for our clients who were more than pleased with Gina’s fresh ideas and new perspective. Now, the once separate rooms are connected with a raised Carrera marble bar with practical 15” shelving on the dining side for storage.
To further promote flow of traffic between the two rooms, the carpet was removed in the dining room and the oak hardwood floors, now stained a warm dark brown, were continued from the kitchen into the dining. Rather than the typical, standard sheet rocking of the wall and ceiling between the rooms, we matched the exact wood working form the new kitchen cabinets to create the decorative pillars leading into the new dining room. Now this once neglected space simply can’t be ignored.
Here some other details of the chic kitchen remodel. Our designer created the sense of expansion desired by the clients by taking out the existing walk in-pantry and converting it into a wine and coffee bar equipped with a Blanco bar sink and Sub Zero under counter wine fridge. No storage is lost with the addition of the adjacent shelving and cabinetry which includes what we call the “launch pad”– a unique space inside the cabinet for the whole family to charge all their necessary electronics from cell phones to iPads. Next to the launch pad is an appliance barn where the blender for mixing margaritas on a Saturday night or the toaster for quick morning breakfasts can be tucked away when not in use.
Speaking of cabinetry, one of our favorite parts of this kitchen (if we’re forced to chose) are the pearly white custom cabinets that give this kitchen its traditional title– all topped with Azul Aran 3cm granite countertops, paired with Sonoma Cavalli Carrera marble brick laid tile backsplash. Contrasting the white cabinets, a dark stained alder island is centered in this crisp, clean kitchen. But what you won’t see in the pictures is that the cabinets aren’t merely stylish, but also practical with their deep storage and Blum self-closing drawer hardware. Both practical and stylish are all the appliances– the one thing our clients insisted on being the ultimate. We chose the top of the line 48” Wolf range, 54” Best Island hood, warming drawers, a Kitchenaid dishwasher, and the 42” side by side Sub Zero refrigerator with built in matching cabinet panels. These appliances don’t only make this kitchen a functional space for entertaining, but a stylish one at that! Tying the whole kitchen together we added a new chandelier over the nook with blingy bits of glass along with Tech Lighting’s Ooni pendants. Together they add a touch of flare in this kitchen that we can’t help bragging about.
